The name Nagura can be applied to any stone that is used by rubbing it against another sharpening stone. Nagura is often translated as Dressing Stone and can be used for creating a slurry before sharpening, for cleaning swarf from a stone, or for smoothing a stone's surface. Suehiro's 1000 grit Nagura is a general purpose stone that can be used for any of these purposes.
Suehiro's 1000 Grit Nagura Stone should be soaked before use. Immerse the stone in water and leave it until bubbles stop coming from the stone. Then lay the nagura flat on your water stone's surface and with gentle pressure rub back and forth or in small circles. The resulting slurry can be left if you prefer working with a prepared slurry, or rinsed off as desired.
This nagura works well with Suehiro's Cerax Water Stones, but can be used with any water stone.
